The Cobb County Board of Commissioners (BOC) proudly recognized the CCRC essay contest winners at their monthly meeting on March 26, 2026. First place winner Heaven Smith of Cobb Online Learning Academy, and runner-up Eva Thompson of Campbell High School were each presented with a Certificate of Recognition. The outstanding students received a CCRC scholarship in the amount of $1500 and $500 respectively.
The BOC presentation was led by Commissioner Monique Sheffield of District 4 and was attended by members of the Coalition, along with the students’ parents and family members, making for a truly memorable evening. This scholarship is part of the Coalition’s broader programming in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative, designed to engage young people in the ongoing fight for racial justice and historical transparency.
